After selecting AMOS as the airline’s new M&E (Maintenance & Engineering) software at the end of 2024, Frontier now also added various new modules to its existing AVIATAR digital tech ops tool suite. The newly added applications include Predictive Health Analytics, Condition Monitoring and the AI-based Technical Repetitives Examination (TRE). Enhanced by Lufthansa Technik’s Digital Tech Ops Engineering Services, the addition of these new capabilities represents another major milestone on the ultra-low-fare carrier’s roadmap for the digital transformation of technical operations with its large Airbus A320 family fleet.

With AMOS, a world-leading Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) software which is currently being implemented in the airline’s operations, Frontier will be able to manage all its maintenance, engineering and logistics needs while ensuring continuous compliance with aviation regulations on a single, easy-to-use cloud hosted digital platform. The software suite covers a broad spectrum of technical and commercial functions, from material and resource management to production engineering, quality assurance and maintenance planning, to name just a few. AMOS moreover integrates seamlessly with the other elements of Lufthansa Technik’s Digital Tech Ops Ecoystem, flydocs and AVIATAR supporting Frontier’s ambitious growth plans. For the latter, Frontier now also selected additional modules to significantly broaden the field of capabilities.

Using advanced full flight data, the AVIATAR Predictive Health Analytics module anticipates technical issues with Frontier’s aircraft, helps minimize their downtimes, transforms unscheduled maintenance events into scheduled ones, and offers proactive recommendations to enhance troubleshooting efficiency. This assists the airline in lowering its maintenance cost and in avoiding operational incidents, delays or AOG (Aircraft on Ground) situations. AVIATAR’s Condition Monitoring module moreover collects data from various sources to offer Frontier an unparalleled real-time overview of its fleet’s technical status and components.

The TRE module represents an upgrade to Frontier’s existing AVIATAR Reliability Suite. It enables the targeted analysis of its flight crews’ technical logbook write-ups through a combination of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the extensive engineering knowledge of Lufthansa Technik. As of today, the solution has been rolled out at more than 20 international airlines with various Airbus and Boeing aircraft types. Through direct feedback from Frontier, the solution has already been further developed in partnership with Lufthansa Technik’s engineers.

With this recent scope extension, Frontier Airlines becomes the first US airline to employ products from Lufthansa Technik’s entire Digital Tech Ops Ecoystem, a unique offering that spans the complete digital MRO value creation chain. Besides the aforementioned AVIATAR and AMOS, the Ecosystem also includes flydocs, the aviation global leader in digital records and asset management, which Frontier has been using for almost ten years as its digital records management solution provider.

“Frontier has several partnerships with Lufthansa Technik which the company’s Engineering and Reliability departments are leveraging to better forecast and track reliability issues across our various fleets. Lufthansa Technik continues to improve their offerings, driving more integration of various digital services, and bringing users to relevant information more quickly by leveraging cross-linked data within the ecosystem of applications. These efficiency gains, and ability to forecast potential issues through predictive maintenance, allows Frontier to improve the reliability of our fleet for smoother and more consistent system operations,” said Shaun Jensen, Director Engineering and Fleet at Frontier Airlines.

“We are delighted to welcome Frontier as the first US airline using our complete Digital Tech Ops Ecosystem. Together, we are driving the digital transformation of the aircraft maintenance industry and setting new benchmarks for efficiency, reliability, and innovation,” said Arne Schlossmacher, Lufthansa Technik’s Head of Sales and Customer Development Digital Fleet Services in the Americas. “While already very effective on a single product basis, the smart combination of AVIATAR, flydocs and AMOS with a strong regional support will help Frontier leverage even more benefits on the road to fully digitalized MRO services.”

Frontier’s Technical Operations division maintains the carrier’s large fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft and provides maintenance, engineering, and technical training services at locations across the USA with the main hangar at the headquarter in Denver, Colorado. Frontier is part of an airline group of renowned ultra low-cost airline brands including Wizz Air, JetSmart and Volaris who also work closely with Lufthansa Technik, its Engineering and Digital Fleet Services. All these airlines operate rapidly growing Airbus A320 family fleets, which requires new levels of synergies and flexibility for efficient further growth of operations.

Press Release,Digital

A ceremonial signing took place today at the Dubai Airshow for Lufthansa Technik to support Riyadh Air over the next ten years with Total Component Support (TCS) for its expanding Boeing 787-9 fleet. Moreover, the digital native airline has recently decided to enter Lufthansa Technik’s Digital Tech Ops Ecosystem by employing the latter’s AMOS Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) software in its technical operations. The agreement was signed by Adam Boukadida, Chief Financial Officer of Riyadh Air, and Dr. Christian Leifeld, Chief Financial Officer at Lufthansa Technik and responsible for its Digital Fleet Services.

The TCS provides Riyadh Air with 24/7/365 access to Lufthansa Technik’s industry-leading global spare parts pool network, through which the airline can significantly increase the availability of aircraft components for its 787 Dreamliners. In doing so, it can leverage considerable cost advantages compared to a conventional in-house spare parts provisioning. The agreement not only covers general component MRO services in an open-loop exchange setup, but also a comprehensive AOG (Aircraft On Ground) support that guarantees Riyadh Air the shortest possible reaction times and a dedicated logistics support for time-critical components. The TCS for Riyadh Air already started with the entry-into-service of the airline’s first 787 in October.

With AMOS, a world-leading M&E software, Riyadh Air is already managing all its maintenance, engineering and logistics needs and permanently assuring compliance with aviation regulations on a single, easy-to-use digital platform. The software suite covers a broad spectrum of technical and commercial fields, from material and resource management via production engineering, to quality assurance and maintenance planning, to name just a few. As an integral part of Lufthansa Technik’s Digital Tech Ops Ecoystem, AMOS also seamlessly integrates with its decision solutions, enabling a connected flow of data and processes across the entire MRO landscape.

“Ensuring we have a strong partner in place like Lufthansa Technik for the provisioning of spare parts is critical to our operational performance,” said Adam Boukadida. “As a start up airline, to minimize the impact of any technical issues, we need immediate access to a broad pool of aircraft components across the globe that are available 24/7 and ready for installation.”

“We are delighted to accompany Riyadh Air on its impressive growth course, for which operational stability will be key. And that is exactly why we see ourselves as a strong partner, from the recent start via the upcoming ramp-up of its operations all the way on to Riyadh Air’s goal of connecting 100 global destinations by 2030,” said Dr. Christian Leifeld. “Riyadh Air’s modern and digitally-driven mindset moreover corresponds well with our goal of digitally transforming the entire MRO ecosystem, hence we are eagerly looking forward to fill this wonderful new partnership with life.”

MRO,Digital,Press Release

Various contracts signed at the Dubai Airshow encompass comprehensive component support, landing gear maintenance, aircraft production inspections, engineering and digital services for a broad range of Airbus and Boeing aircraft types.

In line with a long-term Total Component Support (TCS), Etihad’s entire fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft will benefit from direct access to Lufthansa Technik’s global spare parts pool. This will enable the airline to increase the availability of frequently needed aircraft components, leading to considerable cost advantages for its A320s, A321s, A320neos, A321neos and A321LRs. This agreement not only covers general component MRO services, but also a 24/7 support for AOG (Aircraft On Ground) cases and a dedicated on-site customer service manager at the airline’s hub at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport.

Over the coming five years, the undercarriages of Etihad’s Airbus A380 fleet will receive comprehensive maintenance at Lufthansa Technik Landing Gear Services UK. Afterwards, they will be returned to Etihad’s MRO facilities in Abu Dhabi for reinstallation into the aircraft.

Through the company’s Aircraft Production Inspection Program (APIP), experts from Lufthansa Technik will also be providing production oversight for Etihad’s latest 787 deliveries being built at Boeing’s facility in Charleston, USA. Moreover utilizing its EASA Part 21-J Design Organization approval, Lufthansa Technik will also support Etihad’s technical operations with comprehensive engineering services, such as approvals for certain part changes or repairs.

Finally, Etihad has become the launch customer for AVIATAR’s APU & Cabin Temperature Monitoring. Developed in collaboration with FlightWatching (a Revima Group Company), it currently marks the only digital MRO application worldwide for Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) usage and cabin temperature monitoring. Providing the airline a real-time overview of APU and ground-based power provisioning for its aircraft, the AVIATAR module enables a precise prediction of cabin cooling times and helps Etihad to optimize its APU usage for fleet-wide fuel-saving purposes.

“This partnership with Lufthansa Technik represents a significant milestone in ensuring the highest levels of fleet readiness, operational availability, and resilience across our fleet,” said Captain Majed Al Marzouqi, Etihad’s Chief Operations and Guest Officer. “Innovation is part of our DNA at Etihad, and by combining Lufthansa Technik's world-class MRO expertise with advanced digital capabilities, we will enhance operational efficiency, improve reliability, and reinforce our unwavering commitment to continue to enhance safety and reliability for our guests and operations.”

“Etihad has ever-since been a valued partner for us, and especially a very strong supporter in our endeavor to completely transform technical aircraft operations with innovative digital services,” said Dr. Christian Leifeld, Chief Financial Officer at Lufthansa Technik. “Therefore, we are beyond proud to further intensify this cooperation and jointly elevate it to a much more strategic partnership, for both classic MRO services and, even more so, for the fast-evolving digital playing field.”

Before this most-recent expansion of their cooperation, Etihad and Lufthansa Technik had already partnered on a variety of MRO services. The past spectrum, for example, ranged from landing gear maintenance for the airline’s Boeing 777 fleet to an ad-hoc support for composite part repairs (Airframe Related Components) fulfilled locally by the MRO provider’s Dubai-based subsidiary Lufthansa Technik Middle East. With its modern and diverse fleet and its innovative mindset, Etihad has moreover assumed a pioneering role in exploring digital MRO solutions from Lufthansa Technik’s AVIATAR suite, such as Condition Monitoring and Predictive Health Analytics.

MRO,Digital,Press Release

The first engines covered by the new agreement are expected to arrive in Hamburg by early 2026 at the latest.

At the site, the newly contracted services will complement the ongoing Quick Turn Shop Visits (QTSVs) for the airline’s latest-generation LEAP-1A engines, which are fitted on the A320neo fleet and were already contracted to Lufthansa Technik in 2023. So far, the company has already re-delivered four LEAP-1A engines to SriLankan, and more engines are still in induction.

In addition to the hands-on engine MRO services, SriLankan Airlines has recently opted for AVIATAR Condition Monitoring, a part of Lufthansa Technik’s Digital Tech Ops Ecosystem. The software provides the airline with a real-time overview of its entire fleet, offering comprehensive insights into every aircraft’s current technical status and components. By merging the fleet’s operational data with real-time maintenance records, SriLankan Airlines can thus quickly trace past actions and respond promptly for all affected aircraft types in the case of a critical incident. This supports not only the airline’s maintenance control center, but also troubleshooters and engineers in proactively managing the fleet's condition.

“Lufthansa Technik has been a strong support for SriLankan Airlines for decades, and we have constantly broadened our fields of collaboration,” said Vipul Mishra, Head of Engineering at SriLankan Airlines. “While their classic MRO services for our aircraft and our engines have become – and will remain - a backbone in our technical operations, we are also eagerly looking forward to extending our collaboration onto the digital playing field, which has already facilitated many useful insights and improvements for us.”

“We know SriLankan Airlines as a very loyal customer, and it’s always a big pleasure for us to sign a new contract with the outstanding team in Colombo,” said Johanna Koch, Vice President Corporate Sales Southeast Asia and Indian Subcontinent at Lufthansa Technik. “Our most recent agreements resemble great continuation stories to previous steps on SriLankan’s customer journey: The CFM56 services perfectly complement the LEAP engine services, and the AVIATAR product creates many synergies with other joint activities in the field of digital MRO services.”

During around 20 years of trustful cooperation, SriLankan Airlines has already opted for a broad spectrum of Lufthansa Technik’s MRO service offerings. Recent fields of cooperation, for example, encompass a Total Component Support for the airline’s Airbus A330 fleet, as well as the mentioned QTSVs for the CFM LEAP-1A engines the airline has selected to power its Airbus A320neo fleet. SriLankan Airlines has moreover successfully implemented the AMOS maintenance and engineering software, which is also an integral part of Lufthansa Technik’s Digital Tech Ops Ecosystem.

MRO,Press Release,Digital
